Wilson's first and second grade students had an assembly with members of the Union County Bureau of Recycling & Planning. They learned what can be recycled and practiced sorting items into appropriate bins. Then they received their Recycling Ranger badges for pledging to recycle at both home and school.

Fifth grade students in Mr. Schmidt's class shared their favorite books from first grade with their buddies in Mrs. Morris' class. This was just one example of students working together to help inspire a love of reading during Read Across America Week.







Wilson staff came together for an afternoon of professional development. During the session they reflected on the work they have done this year on Tier 1 strategies and MTSS. Then they set goals for the remainder of the year.
Students in Ms. Guerra's class researched and created posters on influential African-Americans like Garrett Morgan, Matthew Henson, Billie Holiday, George Washington Carver, John Lewis, and Robert Taylor Robinson. Then they posted them in the hallway to share with their peers.



Wilson welcomed author, Audrey Vernick, for Read Across America Week. She reminded students that ideas for a story can be anywhere such as putting a character into an unexpected place. She also encouraged students to write their ideas down. Mrs. Vernick keeps hers in a special bowl.

February is National Children's Dental Health month. Our first graders had two special visitors from Westfield Pediatric Dental who taught them how to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Then they connected it to math by graphing the varying amounts of teeth different animals have.




March is Youth Art Month and Music In Our Schools Month. We're kicking both off with an Opening Reception on Tuesday, March 5 from 4:30-6:30p at the Roig Collection. We hope to see you there, as we celebrate the arts in our schools!

Wilson students, families, and alum came out to the PTO's second Game Night of the year. Smiles were plentiful throughout the evening. Thank you to the parents and teachers who volunteered their time.










Students in Mrs. Sapuppo's class learned about our first president, George Washington, while immersing themselves in non-fiction texts and their features.




As Wilson third grade students explore the regions of the United States, they are participating in the Great Postcard Race. They are working to receive postcards from each state. They are getting close to their goal. Do you know anyone in Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, or Missouri?
Wilson fourth graders took a trip to the Westfield Memorial Library to visit the African American History of Westfield Pop-Up Museum. There they learned about Westfield's connections to the Harlem Renaissance and the history of the Brightwood Park neighborhood, amongst many other things.
Buddies from Mrs. Venturino and Mrs. Sapuppo's classes came together to learn about Lunar New Year and paint positive messages for the new year.
