After monitoring weather conditions overnight, all Westfield Public Schools will have a delayed opening today (Wednesday), January 17 to allow time for the DPW and our buildings and grounds crews to address icy conditions. Students in Mrs. Schreier's class explored a variety of non-fiction texts as they continued their study of text features.







Students in Ms. O'Neill's class played "Decimal Yahtzee" to build place-value fluency, as they made, read, and compared multi-digit numbers within their groups.

Our second grade students had an assembly from the EZ Ride organization. They learned to "Be Safe, Be Seen" by following these steps at intersections: stop, look, listen, and wave. These lessons are important for all of our students to remember when they are walking in the community.

Due to the forecasted winter storm and the potential for icy road conditions, all Westfield Public Schools will have a delayed opening tomorrow (Tuesday), January 16, to help safeguard our students and staff during their morning commute. Second graders in Mrs. Sapuppo's class had a lesson on empathy with our student support counselor, Mr. Uveges.


First grade students are creating mixed media paintings of a dinosaur, inspired by American artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat.






Ms. Graziano's first graders read The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs during their fairy tale unit. Then they did a traveling Reader's Theatre performance that incorporated these well known characters.



Wilson kicked off its holiday concert season with a performance by our intermediate and advanced orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Naylor. They will perform for their families at 7PM on Monday at RIS.




Wilson third graders had an assembly with MaryAnne Francisco, President of the Sparta Historical Society. They learned about the life of the Lenape at different stations. Then observed and interacted with artifacts. Thank you Mr. Borchin for organizing this wonderful experience!



We held our first fifth grade community service event. The students did an outstanding job making over 180 sandwiches to donate as part of our school-wide Two Lunch Thursday program. A big thank you to Tracy Sisto and Kate Cuccaro for organizing the event and securing donations.




Fourth grade students met with Dr. Cohen and his colleague Chris Anderson from Rutgers University to share their progress and ask questions about their hydroponically grown lettuce.

Students in Ms. Christie's class listened to a story about Diwali: The Festival of Lights. Then they designed their own rangoli. Thank you to the parents who volunteered to share this special learning experience.









Students in Mrs. Kasemeyer's class worked with partners on a domino sorting activity to reinforce math facts. Dominoes are a helpful tool for developing counting skills, pattern recognition, and for visualizing number facts, both at school and at home.
