What a perfect evening for our annual summer ice pop social! We had a terrific turnout with hundreds of families coming to Jefferson for a big playdate. Thank you to our PTO for providing the refreshing treat for all our children. We hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

Congratulations to the Jefferson Class of 2024! Today's Moving Up Ceremony was a great way to honor all our 5th grade students. Have a fun and safe summer!

Happy Flag Day! Today our 2nd grade teachers held a Flag Day celebration for the students. Prior to this week, the children learned about Flag Day and wrote poems about our flag. At the ceremony, the students read poems and sang patriotic songs. The children were proudly dressed in their red, white and blue for the special day.

Our World Language department, under the supervision of Mr. Pincay, organized a Cultural event this week at WHS. Every elementary school now has multi-lingual "ML" learners. This is wonderful for all our children as they all learn from one another. At the event, students sang and then everyone enjoyed food from around the world.

Some of our 4th graders had a special visit from Chick-Fil-A, located in nearby Watchung. Two of our students, Jeremy & Andrew , were recognized for their persuasive essays about their favorite restaurant, Chick-Fil-A. Everyone in each class received gift cards and mini stuffed-animals of the Chick-Fil-A mascot. Special thanks to Mr. Michael Thornton and his leadership team for making a visit and recognizing our Jefferson students' hard work!

As part of the transition program to middle school, our 5th graders went for their tour of Edison Intermediate School. It was a beautiful day for a walking field trip and the students loved seeing their next school. Such an exciting time! They ended their visit by having lunch there. Thank you to our teachers, EIS counselor, and staff for organizing this experience. We also thank the 8th graders for providing guided tours to our students. They had a great visit!

Ms. Lavin's 4th grade students had a great time learning from parent presenter, Mrs. Librot! She shared a glimpse of her career as an organizational psychologist at JP Morgan. The students were captivated by her stories about the essence of strong leadership. The students participated in some leadership games that encouraged communication, listening and cooperation skills . Thank you, Mrs. Librot , for sharing with us!

One week to the District Art Show! You won't want to miss it! Enter at Door D1 on Trinity Place.

Our 3rd graders went on a field trip to Ellis Island this week. Our students were able to tour the different exhibits to deepen their understanding of the experiences immigrants had while traveling to America. Our students explored the baggage room, registry room, stairs of separation, the dormitory, and were able to see artifacts used by the officers, doctors, and immigrants during this time. Our students had a great time and loved seeing the Statue of Liberty on our ferry ride, too! Thank you to our teachers for organizing the trip and preparing our students for an enriching experience. Thank you also to our PTO for helping to sponsor this trip.

Our 5th grade chorus and intermediate band students performed for our student body during the day and in the evening for the parents and families. Mrs. Webber started our program with having the band play some great tunes. Then our music teacher, Mrs. Meyer, led the chorus in singing several amazing songs. The audience was impressed with the performances! Our musicians worked hard practicing over the past few months. Job well done! Thank you to Mrs. Webber and Mrs. Meyer for their dedication to our music program.
