Level Up, Wildcats. It's Saturday Night! Our final performance of Leve Up, Wildcats, Washington's 79th Annual School Show, will take place on Saturday, January 31, at 7:00 PM. A special treat will be an appearance by John Rzeznik to sing "Iris" (only at the Saturday night show). Rumor has it that the singer, songwriter, producer, guitarist, and founder of the Goo Goo Dolls refused to perform unless the principal sang with him. Maybe I'll try lip-synching. Do you know why Grizzlies don't wear shoes? Second graders visited their first-grade teachers to share some January jokes they wrote. (They like to go bear-foot!)

Guess who went to the Westfield Memorial Library last week? Our first grades! They walked over with their library cards and checked out books for their animal projects.

Our fifth graders love to help our first graders learn to code in the library.

Our students were busy coding in the library throughout the month. From BotLogic in first grade to Minecraft and Dance Party in fifth grade, our students wrote tons of lines of code and had fun playing the coding games.

Second graders read how the pilgrim children helped their families and what they did for "fun." They could not go to the store to buy things and had to make most items themselves. Hammers, nails, and leftover materials were what we used in colonial times.

Our first graders are learning about Makerspace. They listened to the book, Made by Maxine, and learned about the five key elements of Makerspace: exploring, imagining, tinkering, creating, and collaborating. Then they had fun creating with Brainflakes.

We expected 23 fifth-graders before school on Wednesday to make birthday cake kits for needy families. We ended up with 46! Sending good vibes into the world makes for good karma.

Walking to school helps you start the day with energy and a clear mind. It’s a chance to enjoy fresh air, notice nature, and chat with friends along the way. It’s healthy for both our bodies and our planet. Plus, it's fun!

A good teacher ignites curiosity and helps students see their own potential. They listen with patience and teach with empathy, adapting to each child’s needs. Their classroom feels safe, structured, and full of possibility. Most of all, they inspire students to love learning long after the lesson ends. And they come to school early to help children "get it".

Yoda says: "Hmmm. A good custodian, wise and humble, they are. See what others overlook, they do — the small things, important they become. With broom and heart both strong, balance they keep in school’s life. Pride not in praise, but in sparkle of hallways, they find. A guardian of order and calm, the Force flows through their steady hands." Happy Custodians' Day!
