Enjoy your Spring Break!

Students in Mrs. Stanzel's class fostered kindness through their "Lucky Letters" activity. Each day, a random student was chosen, and everyone in the class wrote a heartfelt letters to that person. It was a wonderful way to see the positivity and kind words flow through their classroom.

Our student-led Book Club meets on Mondays. They are currently exploring the text The Wild Robot. Students plan the activities with our librarian, Mrs. Ciampa, as their advisor. There is still time to join!

Wilson's first and second grade students had an assembly with members of the Union County Bureau of Recycling & Planning. They learned what can be recycled and practiced sorting items into appropriate bins. Then they received their Recycling Ranger badges for pledging to recycle at both home and school.

On the final day of our PTO's STEAM after school program, students baked cookies, did Lego challenges, and made dream catchers to name a few.

Wilson students, staff, and parent volunteers worked collaboratively with the organization Rise Against Hunger for this year's Community Service Week project. They did a presentation about their work and reminded our school community that changing lives starts with one meal. Our goal was 15,000 meals. By the end of the day, we surpassed that and packed over 20,000 meals!

Students in Ms. Guerra's class researched and created posters on influential African-Americans like Garrett Morgan, Matthew Henson, Billie Holiday, George Washington Carver, John Lewis, and Robert Taylor Robinson. Then they posted them in the hallway to share with their peers.

Wilson staff came together for an afternoon of professional development. During the session they reflected on the work they have done this year on Tier 1 strategies and MTSS. Then they set goals for the remainder of the year.

Wilson welcomed author, Audrey Vernick, for Read Across America Week. She reminded students that ideas for a story can be anywhere such as putting a character into an unexpected place. She also encouraged students to write their ideas down. Mrs. Vernick keeps hers in a special bowl.
