As our 8th graders work on their culminating project, they participated in a moving assembly today, Through the Eyes of a Friend. Today's assembly uses a blend of dynamic performance and archival film to bring Anne Frank’s story and the experiences of young people during the Holocaust to life.

Last weekend, several band students in grades 6-8 auditioned for the CJMEA Intermediate Region Bands. These are highly competitive groups that have students from all over Central NJ try out. Over 400 students in total tried out. We are very proud of our three students for being accepted into these prestigious group!

Mrs. Trottere, our Student Assistance Coordinator, taught lessons in the Health classes. She covered two important topics: "How Vaping Nicotine Affects the Teen Brain" for 6th and 7th graders and "The Dangers of Binge Drinking" for 8th graders.

Today Ms. Bennett's 6th grade classes were actively engaged in the Royal Game of Ur. She created brackets for each class and her students competed in a tournament with the goal of being named the Royal Champion. It's history's oldest board game from Ancient Mesopotamia.

Seventh-grade science students have been creating posters to illustrate how digestion works in a healthy person, highlighting the role of each part of the digestive system. This activity helps students review and reinforce their understanding of key concepts from our metabolic reactions unit.

Members of the RIS Jazz Ensemble, Early Morning Orchestra, and Sharps & Flats toured the northside elementary schools. Their performances were amazing and spread some holiday cheer to future RIS students.

Students in Robotics learned about gear trains and how they can increase the speed of their robots. The students then design and build dragster robots completely from scratch. They then program their robots to compete in a knockout style head to head race. The winner is the last bot standing! Period 2 races Period 5 for the Grand Championship.
