Our little mathematicians explored shapes today using new vocabulary—words like straight line, curved line, and points—to describe their unique qualities. 🟦🔺⚪
For hands-on fun, students partnered up to sort shapes, comparing and discussing what makes each one special. Collaboration + vocabulary + critical thinking = a perfect math lesson! 💡🤝

🚛🚓🚒 Today’s annual PTO-sponsored Touch-A-Truck event was a huge success! Students loved exploring vehicles and learning from our incredible community helpers who keep us safe and supported every day. This hands-on experience also set the stage for next week’s “Week of Extra Respect” as we celebrate safety, kindness, responsibility, and community.
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing parent volunteers—your time and energy made this event unforgettable! 💛

🧮✨ Our kindergarten mathematicians are on the move! Students rotated through engaging stations that reinforced counting, number formation, and real-world skills—like creating their very own grocery shopping lists. Learning math is fun, hands-on, and meaningful! 🛒🔢

In Pre-K, play is powerful. 🎨🧩🧱
Play centers aren’t “just play”—they are where big academic and social skills grow!
✨ Building with blocks = early math, problem-solving, and teamwork.
✨ Dramatic play = language, imagination, and cooperation.
✨ Art and sensory = creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression.
Through play, students practice sharing, taking turns, following routines, and exploring new ideas. 💡

✏️👩🎨 In Writer’s Workshop today, kindergarten authors learned how to draw a person! Step-by-step, they practiced adding details like heads, bodies, arms, legs, and faces.
This kind of explicit instruction builds confidence for our emergent writers. When students feel successful with their drawings, they’re more eager to add labels and begin writing simple sentences. 🌟

🎲✨ Counting Fun in Kindergarten! ✨🎲
Kindergarteners are practicing their numbers 0–9 through guided practice and hands-on games! Using counting mats, colorful counters, and a digital spinner, students are learning to recognize numbers, count objects, and build a strong foundation in math—all while having fun. 💡💛
📚 Math + Play = Learning that sticks!

🌳✨ Outdoor free play isn’t just fun — it’s essential! ✨🌳
Running, jumping, climbing, and exploring outdoors give preschoolers the chance to build gross motor skills, strengthen their bodies, and boost coordination. Just as important, outdoor play fosters creativity, problem-solving, and social growth as children invent games, share space, and work together.
A balanced preschool experience includes time to move, play, and explore — helping little learners grow strong, confident, and ready for new challenges.🛝💡💖

✨ What an amazing first day of school! ✨
Today we…
🌟 Built classroom community
🤝 Connected with new friends
📚 Practiced the routines that will help us learn and grow all year long
Our classrooms are already buzzing with curiosity, kindness, and teamwork. We can’t wait to see all the incredible learning and friendships this year will bring! 💛

🍎 From kindergarten to graduation! Each “Westfield Apple” is carefully crafted in the Westfield High School Wood Shop and gifted to our youngest learners — a keepsake they’ll carry with them through their school journey and proudly wear at graduation in 2038. 🎓
Special thanks to Tom Paterson, K-12 Supervisor of Science, for overseeing the production process!

We hope to see you there! 💛

Today our Pre-K students had a great time in PE using scooters! They practiced important gross motor skills like balance and coordination while developing spatial awareness by moving safely around each other in the gym. 💙

📚 Kindergarten students are diving into non-fiction texts this week! They’re becoming word detectives, searching for teaching words that help them learn new facts and understand the world around them. 🕵️♂️🕵️♀️ So proud of these curious readers! 🔍

🚀 Our Kindergarten Enrichment class put their design thinking skills to work this week! Students used their imagination to create objects and group them into fun categories like “Things in a Kitchen” or “Things You Take on Vacation.” One clever category was “Things That Open and Close,” and one student wowed us with a clam shell holding a pearl! 💡🐚 We’re so proud of their creativity and collaboration!

May is Speech and Language Awareness Month! 🗣️💬
At Lincoln School, we celebrate communication in all its forms. Some of our students use AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices to express their needs, ask questions, and connect with others. 🧑💻❤️ Every voice matters—every way of communicating counts!

Pre-K Tournament of Champions! 🏅
Our youngest athletes had a blast rotating through six fun gross motor stations with help from awesome Edison Intermediate School student volunteers! 🏃♀️🤸🏿♂️
It was a day full of teamwork, energy, and smiles! 🌞🎉

In Pre-K, play is more than just fun—it’s intentional. Carefully designed play spaces connect directly to curricular goals, turning everyday moments into powerful learning experiences. Incidental learning happens naturally when curiosity leads the way! 🧸🪀🧱

The Flower Patch was bursting with joy at the Lincoln Early Childhood Center!
From picking the perfect bloom to crafting colorful creations, students soaked up sunshine, stories, yard games, and a bubbly dance party. It was a day where fun and friendship blossomed!
🌸🎨🌼🫧📖☀️

Our Kindergarten mathematicians used pipe cleaners to create their own 2D and 3D shapes, exploring sides, vertices, and edges in the most creative way! From triangles to cubes, the classroom was full of colorful geometry and big smiles. 🧮⭐️🔺🔷📐

Kindergarten students hit the ground running in PE today as they practiced relay races in preparation for the upcoming Kindergarten Field Day!
From sprinting to tagging in teammates, the focus was on more than just speed — students worked hard on following directions, building gross motor skills, and most importantly, showing teamwork and collaboration.
We’re so proud of their effort, energy, and encouragement for one another. Field Day, here we come! 🏅

Congratulations to our Earth Day Poster Contest winner, Lyla C.! Lyla's beautiful artwork reminds us all of the importance of keeping our oceans clean. We’re so proud of Lyla's creativity and passion for protecting our planet!
