Parent guests are welcome to share their expertise with our students. On Friday, Mrs Smaldone came to visit Class 2B to share her expertise in medicine. She is a physician's assistant and she explained to the students some of the tools that doctors use when they are giving an exam. The students were able to see some of these tools up close and also practiced using a stethoscope! It was very cool! Finally, the students examined an anatomical model and saw all the internal organs. It was very interesting. What a great health lesson!

This week our 5th graders Investigated chemistry with sweet delights to explore chemical and physical changes. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this enriching program!

There were many families with their children and our staff joining in to support them. It was a tour around the world at Jefferson! Students learned about other countries and cultures and even tasted some delicious food and snacks. Many went home with fun crafts and games. Thank you to our PTO and generous families for hosting this event!

Our 1st graders are learning that air takes up space. In this lesson, the children made balloon rockets fly and learned how compressed air can be so much fun when you release it from a balloon.

Our 2nd graders enjoyed a Liberty Science Center Backyard Safari program. Students learned about the life cycle of the horned tomato worms (hummingbird moth). They were amazed to learn that not only are the worms green, their blood is green from the tomatoes that they eat. Children will be on the lookout for horned tomato worms in the spring right in our Jefferson Garden since they can be found in NJ. The children enjoyed feeling the spike on the worm's back. They will continue their investigation of life cycles in the spring with our FOSS science curriculum. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this program.

We had an assembly program for our 2nd graders to learn about Pedestrian Safety. The students learned about important tips to keep them safe. STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and WAVE. Remember to look both ways and walk with an adult or group. Use crosswalks. Wear bright colors or reflective gear. We encourage more students and families to walk to school when the weather permits. It is good exercise and fun!

Class 3O and 5A Buddies had a challenging activity. They had to build a snowman for their imaginative construction company to sell, staying within the $25.00 budget in materials. After the snowmen were built, buddies then wrote and recorded a persuasive sales pitch to the people of Mobile convincing them to buy their snowman. Students collaborated and had fun with this challenge.
