Our Safety Patrol program officially began today! We're so proud of our fifth-grade volunteers who dedicate their time to help our school community. These students were trained to assist our younger children during morning arrival, ensuring everyone is safe until class begins.

Mayor Brindle paid a special visit to the second grade to talk about her role as the Mayor of Westfield and the importance of community. She explained her responsibilities, including helping to make decisions that keep the town safe, clean, and fun for everyone. The students learned how the mayor works with others to improve parks, schools, and neighborhoods. Mayor Brindle also encouraged the students to think about how they can help their community, reminding them that everyone, no matter their age, can make a difference. It was a great way to connect our unit on communities to real life. Thank you to Mrs. Boratto for organizing this special visit for us!

A big thank you to the presenter, Mr. Mike Johnson, from EZ Ride Safe Routes to School Program who visited our 2nd graders for a pedestrian safety program. The students learned and practiced important tips like "stop, look, listen, and wave," and were reminded to "be safe and be seen" by wearing bright colors. It was a great way to reinforce safe habits for all our students. We are looking forward to Walk and Roll to School Day on October 1st!

Our students learned about Constitution Day this week! Some classes made posters to show their pride.

Today, we honored the heroes of September 11th on Patriot Day. Our students and staff wore red, white, and blue as they learned about this important day in our nation's history.

Our students had a great time exploring and shopping at this week's book fair! A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for bringing this fun and exciting experience to our school.

Yesterday was our first day of indoor line-up for our 1st and 2nd graders, and the children were absolutely amazing! We've never had such straight and quiet lines. It's going to be a fantastic year!

Students arrived with bright smiles, and our teachers were so excited to begin the new year. Everyone was dressed for success, and the building was buzzing with positive energy. Here's to a wonderful school year ahead!

Our Meet and Greet was a huge success yesterday! It was wonderful to see so many students and families come out to meet their new teacher and classmates. Our teachers were thrilled to welcome everyone and begin building those important relationships. Events like this help lessen first-day anxiety and build excitement for a new school year. What a great way to start!

Our New Student Scavenger Hunt was a great success! New students were greeted by the principal and school counselor, and then given a map to explore the building. As they found each location, a teacher greeted them with a school supply item to fill their new pencil case. It was a wonderful way to help our new students get to know the building and staff. They left happy and confident, ready for their first week of school! Our next event which is open to everyone is our Meet and Greet on September 3rd from 2:30-3:00pm.

An exciting day at our new playground! The final layer of fresh rubber mulch has been poured, giving it a vibrant new look. We'll need to let it settle for a few days, but it will be ready just in time for the first day of school next Thursday. A huge thank you to our PTO for raising the funds for this project and to our maintenance department for all their help!

New Student and Family Orientation was a great success this week. It was wonderful to welcome our new families to the Jefferson School community. After a welcoming speech from Dr. Hung and the PTO co-president, Mrs. Jain, our new students and their families were treated to a tour of our school. We're so excited to have our new families join us!

Summer cleaning has been a huge undertaking, and our custodial team has done a terrific job! Since the last week of June, they've been working hard to get classrooms cleaned and floors waxed, and the building looks fantastic. This summer, our 2nd grade classrooms got a makeover with fresh paint and new furniture. It's also been great to see some of our teachers already in their classrooms, setting up for students. This is always such an exciting time of year as we prepare for opening day!

Our Ice Pop Social was so much fun! A huge thank you to our amazing PTO for sponsoring this perfect evening for our students and families. It was great to see everyone enjoying a refreshing treat while catching up on the playground.

We were thrilled with the incredible number of submissions for our 4th Grade Bike Poster Contest! Mike, an instructor from EZ Ride, stopped to deliver the exciting news and present prizes to our seven talented winners. Keep those wheels spinning and remember to ride safely!

What an incredible trip to the Sterling Hill Mine Museum for our 4th graders! Students explored the Zobel Hall Museum, toured the historic mine, and visited the fascinating Warren Museum of Fluorescence. A highlight for many was getting to take home their very own rock collection! Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring our trips.

Our first graders embarked on an exciting field trip to the Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University. They traveled back in time to discover how people lived in the past. Students experienced a day in the life of a child from long ago, completed chores, and even crafted their own marbles! This hands-on learning adventure provided a unique glimpse into history. Thank you to our PTO for sponsoring our trip!

Our 4th Grade Bike Rodeo was a huge hit, proving that learning about bike safety can be incredibly fun! We extend our sincere gratitude to the EZ Ride instructors, our security team, our amazing teachers, and the skilled bike mechanics from Hilltop in Cranford for their invaluable contributions. Their efforts ensured everyone's bikes were ready to roll, with tires inflated and brakes adjusted. Students navigated small riding courses set up on each blacktop, sharpening their skills and practicing essential hand signals, slowing down and breaking, and scanning before proceeding. What a great event for our students!

Our staff charity volleyball game was a resounding success, filled with exciting plays and fantastic energy! We extend our sincerest gratitude to all the teachers who participated, showcasing their skills and teamwork for a great cause. A huge thank you also goes out to our incredible students and families whose enthusiastic cheering and applause created an electric atmosphere. Your support made the event truly special! And, as always, a tremendous thank you to our PTO for their invaluable help in making this event such a success.

Students from Classes 2A and 2B teamed up for a fun and creative buddy activity where they designed their very own dream gardens! Drawing on what they’ve learned about gardens, each buddy pair collaborated to sketch out a garden that included at least one fruit and one vegetable they’d love to grow. The gardens also featured imaginative additions like trees, water fountains, and cozy seating areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings. It was wonderful to see the students working so well together, sharing ideas, and using their creativity. Their final designs were thoughtful, detailed, and truly impressive!
