Fourth graders have been developing their realistic fiction stories. It is a long process from brainstorming, planning, drafting, revising/editing and publishing. The final product is always something to be proud of!
Second graders have been working on their personal narratives. Today's lesson was on planning a strong beginning, middle and end to their story.
Our students are enjoying their time in the library with Ms. Harrigan. Starting this week, students are able to take out 2 books! Our 4th graders have been learning about the importance of digital citizenship.

Many of our students celebrate Diwali. We had guest presenters visit with various classes to share about the holiday and traditions this week. Happy Diwali!
Our students learned about Veterans Day this week. Many students created letters and cards which will be delivered to veterans. Please thank a veteran for their service to our country!
Jefferson 5th grade students went on a field trip to Sandy Hook. Our students learned about the importance of the salt marsh and did several hands-on activities to investigate the nature of the New Jersey coastal area. We thank the teachers for organizing the program and we appreciate the PTO for funding the trip.

Our music teacher, Mrs. Meyer, shares her passion for music and dance with the students. With the Diwali holiday approaching, our students are learning an upbeat song and dance to celebrate this festive day.
Our 5th grade students are playing a game of Multiplication Top-It. They are having fun and learning at the same time!
This week, we kicked off Safe Schools Week. Our students and staff wore purple to spread tolerance, acceptance, and respect. Thank you to all our students and families for sending in the completed paws which states how they help keep our school safe.

Mr. Thompson's 5th class invited a special guest to present this week. 5T students were fortunate to have a United Airlines pilot speak to them about some key principles in aeronautics. Captain Michael DiChiaro has worked in the airline business for over 20 years and is currently flying the Boeing 737 aircraft to destinations worldwide. During a respite from his travels he took time to discuss some scientific concepts such as Bernoulli’s principle, lift, drag, and thrust with the class. Students gleaned knowledge from Captain DiChiaro through an intense question and answer session followed by a demonstration of lift in which all students were participants. We at Jefferson are lucky to have such wonderful role models in our midst who value giving back to the Westfield community through sharing their gift with our children.
Classes 3O and 5A joined together for their buddy time earlier in the week. For the Week of Respect theme, the students used chalk to share and spread respectful and kind messages. Always be respectful and kind to yourself and others!
Today was Walk to School Day! Our students received stickers and signed posters upon arrival. Jazzy and Mayor Brindle also made an appearance to support our students and families. Thank you to our PTO for organizing this event.

We had a fun and entertaining assembly program called Brain Games Challenge. The students were divided into the red or blue team. There was much student participation, excitement, and laughter. Thank you to our Cultural Arts Committee and PTO for bringing this program to us!
Learning is taking place in all classrooms and leaning spaces! Our students are enjoying learning about one another and doing a fine job following teacher expectations.
