Scarlett ate lunch because being a principal takes lots of energy and she had a busy afternoon ahead of her. She helped our security specialist Mr. Frank run a fire drill. We also had a first grader lose his shoe in the bushes (long story) and we couldn't find it but after many attempts Scarlett found it! She checked out the pop bottle display in the hall and ended her day on the front lawn with a selfie. What a day!

Principal for a Day is one of our many "Teachers Treasures". Scarlett was this year's winner and she had been running the school like a pro. She started the day on the carline and welcoming students as they arrived at Franklin. She bumped into her 2nd grade buddy, the assistant principal and another student named Scarlett. She then made announcements on the loud speaker. Next she was off to visit classrooms, ride the elevator, join morning meetings, visit former teachers and work alongside Mr. Jesse to pick up some broken glass. Finally, she met with the PTO Treasurer who was helping manage Food Days. All in a days work and it's not even lunch yet!!

Hannah wrapped up our week of announcements with information about Jewish American Heritage Month. New Jersey is home to one of the largest Jewish communities in the country. She also noted the tradition of 'Tikkun olam' which means "repairing the world", practicing kindness and treating others with respect. Thanks Hannah!

Ava, Teddy, and Elliot made a whole school announcement for National Speech and Hearing Month, along with their teacher, Mrs. Lewis-Styler. They talked about what stuttering is, how to help someone with a stutter (be patient, give them time to finish, listen to what they are saying, and don't finish their sentence). Also, some famous people who stutter are Tiger Woods, Ed Sheeran, Emily Blunt and Paul Duncan (only a little famous in the halls of Franklin!).
