Today in 4H students practiced fact fluency with differentiated Halloween Bump games.

What an amazing day for the parade!!

And more!

We're getting ready!

More positive messages from our student leaders on the morning announcements.
As we wrap up Red Ribbon Week, remember that making healthy and safe choices can be fun, just like today. When you are trick-or-treating, celebrating with friends, and enjoying time with family, be safe, kind and mindful.
Take care of your body by drinking water and getting enough rest.
Have a spooktacular Halloween!

Congrats to our Music Students of the Month. These students demonstrated respect, kindness, a positive attitude, and strong effort in every class.

Let's talk about air!! How can we study it if we can't see it!?! Well, we can observe what it does. What does this bag do when we suspend it in the air? What happens when we blow up the balloon? What happens when we let the air out? These are big and fun questions! What a great day to explore these concepts! Look at those cumulus clouds in the sky which are also part of this unit of study!

Our Franklin School Artists of the Month demonstrated creativity and excellence in their artwork but also were kind and respectful to others. Great work everyone!

Hands-on STEM projects, Mole Day celebrations, reading routines, and music practice made for another exciting week at Westfield Public Schools! Students and staff build connections, collaborate, and learn together every day. 📚🔬🎶

Here are some spooky music activities from Mr. Geyer’s music classes. From composing Halloween rhythms, to dancing to Thriller with LED lights, to playing boomwhackers with our play along songs.

4-H was working in teams using the Soil, Rocks, and Landforms stream tables to show erosion and deposition.

Our Two Lunch Tuesday contest is going strong! Last week, 3rd grade made 201 lunches. This week 2nd grade made 179 lunches! What will 1st grade do??? It's so great to see students get excited to help others in need. We know parents are central to this effort! Thank you!

We are committed to helping students develop life skills and looking for opportunities to take on leadership responsibilities. One way to do this is via the morning announcements for the whole school. This can be a little intimidating but students always rise to the occasion. Here are just a few of the messages that were announced during our Week of Respect, Red Ribbon Week and Safe Schools Week!
Red Ribbon Week is a nationally recognized week where we pay extra attention to keeping our bodies and minds healthy and strong. One of the most important choices we can make is to be kind to our minds. That means taking care of our feelings, making choices that help our bodies and brains stay healthy, and asking for help when we need it. Remember, you have the power to make choices that help you feel your best. Choose kindness. Choose healthy habits. Choose to take care of yourself and others
Remember, being part of a safe school means more than keeping our bodies safe. It also means taking care of one another’s feelings and making sure everyone feels respected and included. Your Challenge of the Day: THINK before you speak. Are my words true? Are they Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, and Kind? Let’s make our words count and our actions kind!
Safe choices also mean thinking before we act, respecting other people’s personal space, and telling a trusted adult if we see something unsafe or someone who needs help. Every small choice matters. When we choose to be careful, kind, and respectful, we help make Franklin a place where everyone can learn, grow, and feel that they belong. Stay safe, be kind, and remember: We all belong, and we all make a difference!
Today is Say Hello Day! You’ll notice we are wearing nametags today to remind us how important it is to feel seen. When we say hello, smile, and use someone’s name, we help make our school a friendlier place. Sometimes, a simple “hi” can brighten someone’s whole day!
Your Challenge of the Day:
Say hello to three people today and use their name, see how many smiles you can spread today!

With the support of our PTO and the leadership of Franklin teacher Mr. Pask, Franklin STEAM is bigger than ever! No wonder, there are so many interesting classes like Brixology, Robo Builders, Chemistry of Cooking, Music Engineers, CrazyChem and Jewelry 101 just to name a few.

3D had their first Mystery Book Club meetings today, and they did an amazing job! They've been working on making eye contact, practicing strong listening skills when others are sharing, and learning how to thoughtfully disagree with or build upon one another’s ideas.

Following up from a previous post, our students who have an injury usually play with dominoes or board games. They spelled 'Franklin' yesterday and 'respect' today!

3R & 3D worked in lab investigation groups to determine how to measure the mass of a soaked sponge during our Water and Climate unit in science! The group work fosters people skills and teamwork. The activities are hands-on and involve paper and pencil data collection in a notebook. The curriculum also uses a framework of making claims, collecting evidence and developing scientific reasoning.

A few 1st grade classes had earned a special day through their hard work and great behavior and they decided it was the season for a cozy campout. In most ways it's a typical day of learning but there's a crackling fire and there are stuffed animals and blankets for reading time on the rug!

With the sprucing up of our Habitat Garden, the addition of the outdoor classroom, the addition of new playground equipment, and lots of new places to sit, the Franklin grounds seem to be more popular than ever! The only downside seems to be that we also have more garbage on the property. This problem coincided with our 5th graders learning about the Pacific Garbage Patch--causing some of our civic-minded 5th graders to think globally and act locally! They have formed the Franklin Clean-up Crew (which they call the FCC). Armed with some garbage pickers and a bucket, they are keeping our play areas clean. Our future is brighter with actions like these!

If you have an injury, we don't want you to get re-injured at school so students often need to stay by the nurse's office during recess. There are board games to play as well as dominoes. These two students decided to spell Franklin with their dominoes! Nice work!
