Students in Mrs. Ferreira's 6th grade social studies class used the acronym GRAPES (Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, Social Structure) to identify and categorize historical facts. They completed a timed carousel of task cards with their peers to complete this task.

Students created hundreds of cards for the Cards for Troops as an annual tradition. Led by ELA teacher, Kim Swenson, Cards for Troops have received over 38,000 cards in the past 15 years from the Edison and Westfield school community.

Seventh grade students enjoyed their annual viewing of The Outsiders movie. The ELA teachers facilitate the showing of this movie at the conclusion of their unit in which students read and analyze the novel.

6th grade students in Mr. Robbins TED class piloted Flinn Scientific's new WhiteBox learning, an interactive software simulation system that is paired with hands-on activities. Students completed a shelter unit where they considered how to design, and then build, a shelter that would hold (or increase) temperature. Students gave presentations to administrators highlighting what they built and their views on whether investing in this product would be a worthy addition to future classes.

Students in Mrs. Curtis's reading class played the roles of characters from the novel Stargirl. They interviewed their classmates as they played the characters from the novel, allowing an assessment of their comprehension to be made. Students' acting and comprehension skills were on full display!

Mrs. Houghtaling's biology class participated in an enzyme lab experiment. They used raw beef liver, which is rich in catalase, in their experiments and observed how changes in pH, temperature, and particle size affect reaction rates.

Students in Mr. Wiley's and Mr. Parke's 7th grade science class conducted the Coke and Mentos experiment this week during class. Proper safety gear was worn during the soda eruptions and our custodial crew made sure to clean up afterwards. Sometimes, science is messy.
