Our second-graders visited the Reeves Arboretum to learn more about insects, one of our science curriculum units. The children learned what an insect is, its anatomy and function, life cycle, social structure, and communication. They also got to visit the honeybees who call the Arboretum home.

We learned about writing a curriculum by starting at the end. The Understanding by Design framework focuses on teaching and assessing for understanding and learning transfer, and THEN designing curriculum “backward” from those ends. Dr. Bolton knows what he is talking about!
