I think this has something to do with football....
Our first graders walked to the Westfield Library this week to learn about the books they can borrow for their animal stories.

Today was the first day of the PTO-sponsored chess and scrabble club. Forty students learned how to outmaneuver their opponents under the guidance of middle school wizard helpers.

It's time for half-birthdays! In January, we announce both January birthdays and July half-birthdays. In February, we announce February birthdays and August half-birthdays. Who's got a Leap Year birthday?!

After studying the elements of fairy tales these first graders moved and stretched to the story of Little Red Riding Hood -- Fairy Tale Yoga!

Our fifth-grade chorus (entire grade) and fifth-grade band played for our students yesterday afternoon and our parents last evening. It was the debut of our new band teacher, Trevor Sindorf, the return of music teacher Karen Colabaugh, an encore for Gerry Yoselevich, and a new pianist to accompany the chorus. What a pleasure to listen to them sing and play.

This is Skipper. Maggie and Skipper both passed their certification tests at Bright and Beautiful Therapy Dogs. They are both Golden Retrievers and have families who attend Washington School. Every Friday afternoon, one of them visits two classes (they alternate weeks). Last week, second graders practiced their reading skills as Skipper showed off her ability to listen attentively. We love Maggie and Skipper!

What a wonderful Fall Singalong we had last Wednesday. Thank you to all of the parents who came out to support our choristers. And thanks to music teacher Gerry Yoselevich, who has been filling in so admirably for Karen Colabaugh (who returns next Monday, Dec 4). What the Beatles could have done if only they had a ukulele.

The Caring & Sharing committee at Washington School completed another successful Thanksgiving Drive. Each class collected one ingredient (i.e. can of sweet potatoes) to make a Thanksgiving basket for a needy family in our community. Fifth graders sorted, packed, and delivered the 15 baskets to the Westfield Neighborhood Council. Just one way we can show concern for others in our world.

Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!
