Leadership is in action at Washington Elementary as our fifth grade students take on important responsibilities through the Fifth Grade Safety Patrol, led by Ms. Martin. The goal of the program is to empower our oldest Wildcats to serve as positive role models while providing guidance, encouragement, and support to their younger classmates.
Safety Patrol members have a variety of responsibilities throughout the school day. Students serve as morning and afternoon helpers for our first graders, helping younger students navigate arrival and dismissal routines and making sure they feel welcomed and supported. Patrol members also assist with recess, art, and library routines, providing an extra set of helpful hands wherever they are needed.
These responsibilities provide our fifth graders with meaningful opportunities to practice leadership, responsibility, kindness, and communication. More than simply helping with school routines, our Safety Patrol members are learning what it means to look out for others and contribute positively to our school community.
We are proud of our fifth graders for stepping up, setting a positive example, and helping make Washington a safe, welcoming, and caring place for everyone!
