McKinley first graders wrapped up fire safety month and learned about community helpers with their annual trip to the Westfield Fire Station. They loved walking to the fire station and seeing the fire trucks and meeting the fire fighters.

Fourth Graders practice coding skills. Students work together to write code that will move Spherobots from one point to another.
Second graders in Ms. Passananti's class added finishing touches to their narratives in preparation for their publishing party.
First graders in Ms. Caruana's class worked hard on their writing launch and were happy to celebrate their published pieces. Each student traveled from desk to desk and read their classmate's writing piece. Then, they left a compliment on the blue paper before heading to the next story!
Our second graders completed their study of the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly. They were able to observe the metamorphosis from egg to adult caterpillar to chrysalis and then to Monarch butterfly. They recently released the last of the Monarch butterflies they raised.
Additionally, students in 3B learned about the migration pattern of the Monarchs and also learned how scientists were able to track this pattern decades ago by tagging the butterflies. The students tagged several butterflies and sent them off on their long journey to Mexico. Safe travels, McKinley Monarchs!
To recognize "Safe Schools Week," our 5th Grade Safety Patrol students received their new belts and started their assignments. They are learning how to help and support our younger students during morning arrival.
It Starts with Hello! To recognize "Safe Schools Week," all students and staff wore individualized name tags and greeted each other by name. Students and staff enjoyed creating their name tags and appreciated hearing their names throughout the day.
Throughout October, we celebrate the enduring legacy and vibrant culture of Italian Americans. We honor their significant contributions to art, science, cuisine, and countless other fields that have enriched our nation's tapestry.
5th Graders work through the planning stage of the writing process in various ways. Some students discuss story arcs with a partner while others plan their story sequence using question prompts.
McKinley's Family Reading Night was a huge success. Students and their families enjoyed celebrating the "Art of Reading." Thank you to our teachers and staff for volunteering their time to make this wonderful event possible.

First, Second, and Third Grade Students learned about Fire Safety during an assembly presented by the Westfield Fire Department.
McKinley students celebrated the Week of Respect with Spirit Days. One of our Spirit Days invited students to wear their favorite hats or headbands to show that we are tipping our hats to respecting others.
McKinley Students celebrated Walk and Bike to School Day on October 2. Students wore red and walked and biked with friends and families. Some students walked with Principal McCabe and Mayor Brindle! What a fun day!
McKinley students had a blast participating in a very engaging assembly called Basketball Jones. The presenter encouraged students to support their peers as they tried new skills.
