4th graders extended their classroom learning about rocks with a field trip to Sterling Mines.

Images from the Veterans Day. Mr. Geyer closed the assembly by leading the school in singing the Star Spangled Banner. As a follow-up activity, students are writing cards for the troops for the holidays.

Veteran’s Day was celebrated at Franklin School with a spirit day where students wore red, white and blue and our 5th graders led an assembly that that helped explained the important sacrifices made by those in the armed forces.

In Library with Mrs. Kennedy, 2nd graders listened to the book “Henri's Scissors” as an example of a Biography. They learned about Henri Matisse’s art and then used paper and scissors to make collage art in his style.

5th graders drew their own fall corn still life and used a watercolor wash technique over their marker drawing. Students looked at still life examples from Paul Cezanne before using the corn to sketch from. Painted shadows and hatching marker lines helped make their corn look realistic.

Mrs. Davenport has always displayed student art around the school but now we are dedicating a space to create the Franklin Art Gallery in the alcove by the auditorium/gym. Student artwork will be routinely displayed for all to see in this busy corner of the building. Here are images from the inaugural art show!

Super thankful!

Where's the turkey?
After learning about different family traditions for Thanksgiving, first graders were asked to disguise a turkey. Students used different mediums and items that were unique to their family to disguise their turkey. They also came up with creative speech bubbles to prove they weren’t turkeys. Take a look at some of their “turkeys”!

Happy Thanksgiving! 4B enjoyed breakfast together and then shared plates with the Franklin Staff.

Thank you to the Westfield Education Fund for their generous donation supporting student and staff wellness and to Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss, for facilitating the training. https://www.westfieldnjk12.org/article/918589

Our 5th graders are exploring red worms. Our science curriculum provides many opportunities for teamwork, hands-on exploration and discovery. Here are some pictures of their work.

Today, first graders learned about the balloons in the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They also spent time creating their own special balloons. How fun!

This Tuesday is a special Two Lunch Tuesday collection. In addition to donating lunches, our students have collected canned goods and other food items for those in need during this week of Thanksgiving.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
