Happy 100th Day of School!!!
In order to build number sense, teachers are always trying to give numbers context. They use manipulatives, graphics and pictures to help students understand numbers more fully. In 1st grade, they might ask, what does 1 penny look like? What do 100 pennies look like? How much are they worth? What does 1 day feel like? What do 100 days feel like? How to we count to 100? And, of course, what would it be like to be 100 years old? Let's dress up and find out! Gray hair, glasses, canes and apparently nightgowns are all apart of life at 100. We're having fun but there's learning behind it too! 1H combined our Great Kindness Challenge with the 100th day. They challenged themselves to do 100 acts of kindness before the 100th day! Mission accomplished!

Please consider sponsoring a book for the Franklin School Library. Your participation would not only enrich the library and help foster a love of reading, it would give your child a special connection to our school.
If you would like to participate, select a book from pre-selected titles and write a check for $20 to the Franklin School Fund (no cash please). Mrs. Kennedy will then purchase the book and place a bookplate inside with your child's name on it. Your child will also be the very first student to borrow the book before it is added to the library collection for all to enjoy. Reach out to Mrs. Kennedy for details about the titles at rkennedy@westfieldnjk.12.org
