
Pre-K students are learning about flowers, building hand strength and growing their own plants! They are also "growing" more comfortable talking with each other about their learning!


In celebration of the Hindu Spring Renewal Festival Lay Krathong, Roosevelt 6th grade social studies classes reenacted the festival, writing worries on the sail of their Krathong (raft) before floating it down replicas of the Ganges and Indus Rivers to carry those worries away.

The Board held its reorganization meeting last night. Following the swearing in of Leila Morrelli, Sonal Patel, and Julie Steinberg, Board members elected Robert Benacchio as Board President and Sonal Patel as Board Vice President. Congratulations to all!


Kudos to Edison 8th grader Jasmine Parran whose powerful poem as part of a Holocaust Unit Reflection Project received "high merit" after she submitted it to the Poetic Power Middle School Poetry Contest. Her poem will be published in the contest organization's anthology.


May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Our Student Assistance Coordinators (SACs) and counseling teams have many activities planned to raise awareness, including this focus at Roosevelt on health, fitness, and good sleeping habits.

Recently displayed in the Franklin Art Gallery... beautiful yarn weavings by Franklin 4th graders and 5th grade demonstrations of radial symmetry through paper relief sculptures.





Edison 6th graders in Mrs. Moore's ELA class discussed characters from their Book Club novels, making determinations on who they would befriend based on character traits portrayed in the novels.





As Autism Awareness Month comes to a close, here are some snapshots of a recent
McKinley staff vs staff kickball game to raise awareness. Great turnout by the McKinley school community!

Students in the Humanities classes of Mr. Cohn and Mrs. Leegan discussed the Harlem Renaissance, learning about the work of muralist Aaron Douglass. Inspired by Douglass, the students created a mural that depicts each of the five units of the 9th grade Humanities curriculum.

Lots of learning in Ms. Wade's 4th grade class, as students make rocks from gavel, sand, and sugar water in science, create menus with tax and tip in math, and designing scrapbooks as part of a historical fiction unit.
