The Westfield High School Marching Blue Devils wrapped up an outstanding 2025 season with an impressive 2nd place finish in Class AAAA at the New Jersey Marching Band Directors Association (NJMBDA) State Championships, held at The College of New Jersey. The band also earned the Best Visual award and a score of 92.1, ranking 7th overall among 32 high school bands.

Their vibrant show, “True Colors,” featured oversized crayon props, a mid-show uniform change, and music including True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, Paint It Black by The Rolling Stones, Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas, Bright Blue by Michael Torke, and original compositions arranged specifically for this production.

Earlier in the season, the band placed 1st in their division at the East Brunswick NJMBDA contest and 2nd at Piscataway, while also representing Westfield at the Bands of America Mid-Atlantic Regional in Delaware.
Directed by Chris Vitale and Gabe Batiz, with drum majors Joseph Michaeli and Marisa Villere-Reidy, the 100-member ensemble proudly performed at all Westfield High School home football games and community events, including the town’s annual Memorial Day Parade and this year’s special celebration of the Westfield Fire Department’s 150th Anniversary.

“This season has been one of the most rewarding in recent memory,” said Vitale and Batiz. “The growth, teamwork, and joy they brought to every rehearsal and performance made this a truly special season,”
Band Parents Association president Marc Herzog praised the students’ saying, “The WHS Band Parents Association is so proud of all the band has accomplished this year! Every performance was entertaining and exciting to watch. We couldn't be happier with how the band has come together as one and put so much effort into a display of talent, resilience, and fun. Bravo!"
