WHS Jazz Band performing at senior citizen residence

Members of the Westfield High School Jazz Band volunteered their time and talent to perform for residents of Westfield Senior Citizens Housing on June 1.  To the delight of the audience, the students played popular songs by Beatles, Chicago, Quincy Jones, and the Glenn Miller and Count Basie Orchestras.

“I was glad to see so many toes tapping and heads nodding,” says WHS co-band director Trevor Sindorf. “The students enjoyed sharing music of the Big Band era with such an appreciative audience.”

Carezza Motley, recreation director of Westfield Senior Citizens Housing II, says the residents were very impressed by the 45-minute performance.

“They cannot stop talking about what a wonderful band, with very lovely, talented, and respectful students,” says Motley.

Most of the residents at the concert mentioned that they had children and grandchildren who attend or attended the Westfield Public Schools.  One resident noted that she graduated from Westfield High School.

“I especially enjoyed meeting a member of the WHS Class of 1949,” Sindorf says.  “It’s one of the great things about a community like Westfield. The “Tradition of Excellence” really does extend through multiple generations. Our students are proud to carry that torch.”
