October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Westfield High School Girls’ Volleyball teams will host their 17th annual PINK OUT fundraiser on Monday, Oct. 12 at 3:30 p.m., with 100% of proceeds benefiting the PATHWAYS program, an arm of The Connection, a Summit based, women-led nonprofit organization serving Union, Morris, and Essex counties.
PATHWAYS is a program that provides support, education, and wellness programs for women with breast and other types of cancer, free of cost. Their support includes meal deliveries for women undergoing treatment and their families; fitness training for strength and mobility, financial aid; and counseling. PATHWAYS is one of the only local nonprofit organizations to provide a wide variety of free services to women with cancer or recovering from cancer when they need it most.
Enjoy an afternoon of great volleyball as Westfield’s Varsity, JV and Freshman teams take on rival Sparta High School in the WHS gym, 550 Dorian Road, starting with the Freshman game at 4 p.m. JV plays at 5:30 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7 p.m. Admission is free but we will be collecting donations at the door. Don’t miss an opportunity to paint the stands PINK with 2026 PINK OUT t-shirts, available for $20! Food from local restaurants as well as baked goods will be available for purchase, and basket raffles raising funds for PATHWAYS will be on display. After the varsity match, Varsity Coach Beverly Torok and all three teams will honor breast cancer survivors in our community during a special ceremony.
Last year, over $25,000 was raised during PINK OUT which allowed 90+ women undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment to receive support. Since PATHWAYS assists about 400 women each year, and since the costs of food, fuel, and medical care are ever rising, we aim to raise more funds this year and seek the community’s help in doing so.
