Be Good! Our own art teacher, Alli Gildea, has just had her first children's book published by Amazon. We are so proud of her! A small blurb follows. (We have a copy in our school library. ) A Star is Born
5-year old Jeremy wants to do good, but just can't seem to deliver despite his best efforts— not even on Valentine's Day. To keep him out of trouble, his mama, Beatrice the waitress, exiles him to the dreaded corner booth of the town diner where she works. Grounded at the table with nothing but crayons, placemats, and a big glass of chocolate milk, Jeremy takes things into his own hands... not by trying to BE good but by doing something he's good at: Drawing.

Tuesday, February 14, is our Valentine's Sing Along. This is an opportunity for your youngsters to show off their musical and singing abilities to an appreciative audience. Grades 1 and 2: 9:00 - 9:20 AM; Grades 3-5: 9:30 - 9:50
There will be a party facilitated by parent helpers later in the day. There will be no food served. Exchanging Valentine "favors" (cards) is AOK, as long as there is nothing edible attached.

Spread the Love (and win a Teddy Bear) -- Washington school will be raffling off a four foot tall giant, huggable Teddy Bear named Bubba from Vermont Teddy Bear to benefit the “Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary". Catherine was one of the 2012 victims from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
For every $1.00 donated we will enter your family's name to enter the drawing to win (i.e. five dollars equals five chances).
Jenny Hubbard started this Sanctuary in her daughter's honor. The Sanctuary has been holding outdoor educational programs, animal rescue events and summer camps reaching more than 150,000 people. You can watch a 3 minute video about this here -- https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/mother-of-sandy-hook-shooting-victim-catherine-violet-hubbard-starts-animal-sanctuary-in-her-honor-to-help-heal/?intcid=CNM-00-10abd1h

The raffle drawing will take place on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
Please contact Josephine Cirigliano in our office jcirigliano@westfieldnjk12.org if you have any questions. Thank you for helping to spread the love.

Our beautiful Washington School Sign on St. Marks was vandalized on a recent summer evening. With a lot of investigating we recovered the original sign but it was badly damaged. Now, after months of painstaking restoration by our district's maintenance department, it is back in place where it belongs.
Can YOU tell which is the old one and which is the new one? Color us grateful.

Happy students make for eager learners (or do eager learners make happy students?)!

Early dismissal on Friday, December 23. Wishing all a restful Winter Break. Look forward to welcoming back students and staff on Monday, January 2.

At this time of year different holidays are celebrated in the homes in our community. We are lucky to have so many families willing to share their traditions with us. After all, where else would you find children learning to play "dreidel" while wearing Santa hats?
