Planning To Retire

The following are suggested timeframes for you to follow to make your retirement process a smooth transition:

 

Written notification to the Superintendent and the principal/supervisor of your intentions.  Approximately 4-6 months in advance for a smooth process. *NOTHING GETS PROCESSED BY THE BOARD UNTIL YOU DO THIS OFFICIALLY
 
PENSION:  FILE your retirement application online through the MBOS system.
Upload one of the following as Proof of Birth for yourself and any beneficiaries you selected for your pension on the MBOS site:
    1. Birth certificates (with visible seal).
    2. Digital valid NJ driver’s license
    3. Passport or passport card

 Payroll will automatically complete your final salary certification needed by the State online.

 

You will receive an email from the payroll office acknowledging your retirement request and important information.

 

MEDICAL/RX COVERAGE:  You will receive important links to Health Benefits Information & enrollment forms directly from the Division of Pensions if applicable.  Please be sure to read everything thoroughly.  https://www.nj.gov/treasury/pensions/hb-retired-sehbp.shtml
 
  1. Copies of the following documents will be required by the State if you are enrolling dependents in the SEHBP. 
  1. Proof of Age for yourself and your beneficiary’s
  2. Marriage certificate if applicable
  3. The top page of your 1040 tax return
  4. Medicare A & B cards for yourself and your spouse if applicable.

 

 RX COVERAGE:  OPTUMRX  844-368-8740 If you are over 65, You might receive additional information from Optumrx that will require your immediate attention.

 

DENTAL COVERAGE:  Use Fact Sheet # 73 to decide which coverage is best for you.  You must file a  separate application for dental coverage.

DIRECT DEPOSIT:  Send the completed direct deposit form to the Pension Department
 
FEDERAL & STATE TAXES:  Tax information and forms will come directly from the State for you to complete and return to them.
