Hi's Eye

Westfield High School

75 Years of Scholastic Journalism

First issue: September 25, 2009

To our readers:

As the Hi's Eye gets ready to launch Volume 76 (and observe our seventy-fifth anniversary) our staff would like to provide a few reminders to our new and returning subscribers:

  • Please indicate your student's homeroom number on the subscription form. This number appears on the course schedule that was mailed home in August.
  • If your name differs from that of your student, please make this clear in the memo portion of your check so that our records will be accurate.
  • Our staff processes subscriptions in the order that they come in, so it is possible your student may not be among the first to receive his or her paper. If you have paid, but your student does not receive a paper, he or she is welcome to come to Room 111 to pick it up.
  • We ask your patience as we set up our subscription database. We have approximately 900 subscribers each year, including students, faculty and staff, former students, and residents in town. It takes time to process these subscriptions, so please bear with us in these early weeks.
  • The Hi's Eye comes out each Friday of school weeks of four days or more; there is no paper on three-day weeks (despite our motto!). We also take a hiatus during mid-term exams. By late September a publication calendar will be available on this site; we urge you to check it if you have questions. If unforeseen conditions prevent a scheduled publication day, this site will be updated to reflect any changes.
  • Those getting postal subscriptions should expect to receive their papers on Tuesday of the week following publication day. It may take longer for those out of state.

Subscribers with questions are welcome to contact us via e-mail. Many thanks to our subscribers and sponsors for their continued support of our student-run weekly newspaper. We look forward to providing you with school and community news each week.

Sincerely,

The Hi's Eye 2009-2010 Staff

Hi's Eye is Westfield High School's weekly student produced newspaper. Hi's Eye is free of prior review by the WHS administration, and maintains its independence through funding provided by subscriptions, community sponsors, advertising and fundraising.

Iris is the art and entertainment section of Hi's Eye. It is published once a month as a four page supplemental insert to the regular paper. Iris includes information about school and community news on the arts as well as features about things to do and see with your free time.

Hi's Eye Online is designed as an extension of the newspaper, which is delivered to students in Homeroom on Fridays during publication weeks. The site includes subscription and sponsor forms as well as a means to contact the editors if you would like to submit a letter or are having problems with your delivery.
