WHS Family Reads

"WHS Family Reads" is an initiative in which parents and children read a book together, then gather one evening for a book discussion involving teachers, parents and children --a unique and wonderful opportunity to nurture a love of reading, literary and thematic conversations between parents and children, and discourse within the critical triumvirate of student-parent-educator.

We hope that you and your child will join us for our next book, The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. Written in 1988, the novel covers the epic journey of an English boy growing up as apartheid takes hold in South Africa during and after the World War II era.  He navigates through the oppression of his schoolmates and the racial discrimination he sees regularly, ultimately finding his own strength to face obstacles. Follow his journey from a boy of 5 to a young man of 17 as he discovers the power of words, the power to transform lives, and the power of one.  The discussion group will take place in the fall -- enjoy this summer read!

Please reply to express your interest to the program coordinator, Ms. Kim Gosen-Fowler, English Instructor, at kgosenfowler@westfieldnjk12.org
