Congratulations to this year’s Faculty Award Winners! The students and parents of WHS have spoken. Three members of the WHS faculty have been presented with prestigious awards, acknowledging their commitment, contribution and excellence. They are (pictured above with Principal Renwick): Distinguished Teacher of the Year: Mr. Stephen Boyle (Biology) PTSO Outstanding Teacher of the Year: Zorana Culjak (Math) The Robert and Linda Foose Memorial Award: Ms. Andrea Hill (Math) They will be honored at Senior Awards Recognition night on May 23. Congratulations to these outstanding recipients from the entire WHS community. 2013-2014 Green Student Emergency Forms Due May 31 Due to a change in Department of Education reporting, the completed Student Emergency Form for the 2013 – 2014 school year is needed by the end of this month. This green, 2-sided form was recently mailed home. Please complete the form and have your child return it to their homeroom teacher no later than Friday, May 31. Teachers will be checking that these forms have been turned in on that day. Because the accuracy of this report is so important for our school district, please carefully review the form, enter all necessary information, sign it, and deliver it by May 31. If your child is absent on the day of the collection, please either have them bring this form to the Main Office when they return or mail it in. If a student does not return the form by this date, they will be paged by administration to the office and asked for the form. These forms only need to be completed for this year’s freshman, sophomore, and junior students. 1st Annual 50/50 Charity Softball Game : Friday, June 7, 4 p.m. - See the staff of WHS take on the arch rival staff of SPF. Show your Blue Devil pride and come out to Kehler Stadium to support "Families in Need." Half of the donations will go to the WHSHH foundation and the other half will go to the Scotch Plains foundation, Students Caring for the Needy. Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door. Parker Gardens Supports the WHS PTSO: Now - June 15 When you shop for your landscaping needs at Parker Gardens in Scotch Plains, mention the WHS PTSO and Parker Gardens will donate 10% of the cost of your purchase to the PTSO! For more information, click here . All funds are donated to the landscaping committee, who have spent the last few years upgrading and beautifying the school grounds. Your spring purchases at Parkers ultimately bring support to our school and its grounds. WHS Softball Fundraiser for Pancreatic Cancer - The WHS Softball program is conducting a fundraiser in honor of Lizzie Fox's dad, Gary, who was recently treated for pancreatic cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Mr. Fox has been a huge supporter of Westfield Athletics for many years and currently serves as President of the Boosters Club. Lizzie is on the varsity softball team. End of Year Teacher Gifts Support the Ed Fund The Ed Fund has end-of-the-year gift ideas for teachers and students, including a signed copy of Caps Off to Westfield's Blue Devil which can be purchased at the Town Book Store on Saturday, June 1. The Ed Fund provides teacher requested grants for the classroom. Please see attached flyer.

Westfield Board of Education Candidates Deadline: June 4 Westfield residents interested in becoming a Board of Education member for a 3-year term (2013-2016) must file a petition in person in the Office of the County Clerk at 2 Broad St., Room 113, Elizabeth, on or before 4 PM on June 3, 2013. The actual election will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2013. The members whose terms are expiring on the Westfield Board of Education include Ginny Leiz, Mitchell Slater and Brendan Galligan. They have not announced their intention of seeking re-election as of this date. Questions can be referred to the Union County Election Supervisor, Lisa Hugelmeyer, at 908-527-4996. Animal Shelter Drive for Senior Project: May 1-May 22 - WHS Senior Hannah de Koning-Teasdale, is organizing an animal wish list drive for animals in need at the Plainfield Area Humane Society where she volunteers. Soles 4 Souls Drive for Senior Project: May 6 - May 24 - WHS Senior Naomi Tortorello is helping the non-profit organization called Soles 4 Souls by holding a shoe drive where every pair of shoes donated will be sent to third world countries to people in need. Did you know that Westfield has a rowing team? Did you know that rowing is the fastest growing sport in the country? It's true! Westfield Crew has approximately 40-45 student athletes who row competitively. Teens Surveyed on Downtown Girl Scout Troop 40769 is conducting a survey of teenagers’ spending habits and attitudes about downtown Westfield. Westfield Memorial Library Summer Reading Program For Teens Entering 6th-12th Grade The Westfield Memorial Library is pleased to announce an Online Summer Reading Program designed specifically for teens. The Club takes place from June 24th - August 17th. Any teen entering grades 6-12 who is a full service Library cardholder can join the club via the Internet. All eligible participants must register online. Registration begins on June 24 and can be done from any Internet-ready computer, including those located in the library.
