WHO WE ARE:

The Westfield PTC SpecialEducation Committee is comprised of individuals dedicated to bridging the gapbetween special and general education. We act as an information resource, a support network, and a watchdog on local issues for parents of classified children and other concerned individuals.

WHAT WE DO:  

EveningPresentations - An Education/Informationresource for parents & teachers. Meetings at Edison School start at 7 pm (SupportGroup & Business Meeting) & 7:30 pm (Presentation).  This year's meeting dates are 9/12, 10/24, 11/29, 1/16, 2/20, 4/24,5/15 & 6/12.

AwarenessExpo - Multipleworkshops presented by members of the professional community. This year's Expo is scheduledfor March 20, 2013.

Katherine E.Cuthbertson Memorial Fund -Scholarships awarded each year to graduating seniors.

THE KATHERINE E.CUTHBERTSON MEMORIAL FUND

TheKatherine E. Cuthbertson Achievement Award was established several years ago inmemory of ten-year-old Katie Cuthbertson, a Westfield resident and one of thefirst students to pioneer inclusive education in the state of New Jersey.  Although she faced many challenges -blindness and neurological problems, Katie attended McKinley Elementary Schoolbefore she died in 1991.

Eachyear the Special Education Committee honors Katie's "pioneering spirit" bygiving a number of monetary achievement awards to eligible Westfield HighSchool Seniors.  Additionally, thememorial funds allow us to provide barrier-free initiatives in the schoolsand/or free educational programs for the parent/teacher community.
