HEALTH SCREENINGS KINDERGARTEN THROUGH TWELFTH GRADE
Health screenings have been delineated more clearly by the NJ Department of Education. The school nurse will conduct the screenings with the help of other school personnel when appropriate.
• Screenings for height, weight, and blood pressure will be conducted annually for each pupil kindergarten through twelfth grade. The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages blood pressure checks for children over the age of 3. (Grades 6,7,8 at Edison)
• Screenings for visual acuity must be done every two years for students k-10 (Grade 7 at Edison)
• Screenings for auditory acuity shall be conducted annually for students in k-3 and in grades 7 and 11. (Grade 7 at Edison)
• Screening for scoliosis shall be conducted biennially for students between the ages of 10 and 18. (Grade 7 at Edison)
** Screenings can also be done on request of a parent.
If you would like your child exempt from any of the state mandated screenings listed, (height/weight/blood pressure, vision/hearing or scoliosis) please send a dated and signed notification of such to the health office in the beginning of each school year.
