Substitute custodian $ 10.80 /hour

Does Westfield hire Alternate Route teachers?

Yes we do, but not as elementary classroom teachers.To be eligible for a contract as an alternate route teacher you will need a "Certificate of Eligibility". For requirements, forms etc for that certificate check www.state.nj/education .

 


Does Alternate Route mean I don't need a certificate?

No, contracts can only be issued to holders of NJ certification.You must meet all the requirements for a CE (Certificate of Eligibility) and apply for the certificate to be considered for employment.For the requirements, forms etc for that certificate check www.state.nj/education .

Where is your office located?

Our office is located in the Westfield Public Schools administration building, 302 Elm Street.The building sits on the corner of Elm Street and Walnut, across the street from Stop & Shop.We have two parking lots for your use during your visit.Both lots are on Walnut Street.For your convenience we have an elevator which can be accessed from the parking lot closer to the building.We are on the second floor.

 


What is the process for becoming a substitute teacher
?
(Substitute applications are not distributed or processed between March 1 and September 1 each year)

Visit our office to obtain the necessary forms.Office hours most days are Monday through Friday,

8 AM- 4 PM.

 

A minimum of 60 college credits is required for a substitute license.

 

After picking up the substitute materials from our office you will submit an application for employment, an application for a substitute certificate, evidence of fingerprinting, official transcript with a minimum of 60 credits, a certified check or money order for $125 made payable to the Commissioner of Education.

 

DO NOT visit a police department to be fingerprinted.You must follow the State requirement for live scan fingerprinting and criminal history review.More information is in our packet.Fingerprints submitted on cards obtained from a police department are unacceptable for public school employment.

 

Exceptions:

If you are currently on another district's substitute list you will not need to be re fingerprinted.

If you are a NJ certified teacher (CE, CEAS or Standard License) you need not apply for a substitute license.

If you hold an unexpired substitute license you will not be required to apply for a new license.
