Girls' and Boys' Swimming
County Champs
Westfield Girls' Swimming won their 20th consecutive county championship and the boys garnered their 57th county title in 61 years history of the meet.  The relay team of Loren Ball, Caroline Baldwin, Sarah Cronin and Ellie Reinhart broke the WHS and Tournament records in both the 200 and 400 freestyle.

McKinley Holds Successful "Soup"er Bowl Food Drive 
Students at McKinley Elementary School in Westfield collected nearly 1,700 cans of food and non-perishable items during the school's annual "Soup"er Bowl Food Drive to benefit the Holy Trinity Food Pantry. WHS Project 79 - Invisible Man

In conjunction with their reading of Ralph Ellison's novel, The Invisible Man, several Westfield High School seniors in the Project '79 program attempted to disappear within the interior school surroundings.  Students were painted in such a way that they were camouflaged amid their surroundings in order to raise questions about whom or what is not normally "seen" during the course of a day.  Pictured here is WHS senior, Brianna Guddemi, at the Snapple machine in the school's cafeteria. • WHS 10th grader Alexa Derman accepted into Young Playwright's Inc's Advanced Playwriting Workshop  in NYC.
• Barry Furrer, Franklin & McKinley music teacher, published article in an Oct-Nov 2011 British Music Journal
• 75% of WHS students tested in AP World Language exams achieved high scores of 3,4, or 5.  National average is 62%.
• WHS students Robert Romano & Nicholas Zahorodny named winners in Westfield UNICO essay contest
• Boys cross country team received a wild card invitation to compete as a team in the Nike National Cross Country Meet held in Oregon
• Boys Cross Country Team won the Group IV NJSIAA State Championship for the 3rd straight year
• WHS Gymnastics team wins sixth consecutive Union County Championship
• WHS Girls' Tennis named Union County Champs
• First Place in County for Boys' Cross Country Varsity, JV and 9th grade
• 8 WHS seniors named Semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship program - among the less than 1 % of US high school seniors
•  24 WHS seniors named Commended Students in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Program, among the top 2.3 % in the country
• WHS Volleyball Team raised more than $19,000 for breast cancer research
• WHS senior, Dan Berke, raised $20,000 in donations to charities through annual softball games he organized
• PTC Technology Committee launched fundraising campaign to enhance technology in Westfield schools
• Tamaques Elementary School awarded NJ Agricultural Society "Learning through Gardening Grant" to expand school's garden to continue emphasis on good nutrition
• 96% of the 444 Westfield High School graduates of 2011 are pursuing a higher education
